Dentures
What are they?
There are several different types of denture options available, depending on the patient's circumstances. These include complete, removable dentures, implant-supported dentures, partial dentures and over dentures.
They are worn during the day and should be removed at night time. Patients requiring fixed restoration (non removable) should consider other options such as bridges or implants.
What we will do...
The dentist will use putty-like material to make moulds of your mouth - called 'impressions'. A dental technician will use these to make plaster models for the denture to be built on.
The technician will make wax blocks which fit the plaster models. The dentist will then trim them to show the technician how your teeth should bite together, and the shape to make the denture
The dentist will ask to you to try what is called a trail denture. He will ask you how it fits, feels and looks before making final changes. The trial denture will then go back to the technician who will permanently fix the teeth. The denture is then ready to use
The dentist may want to see you again fairly soon to see how you are getting on with the denture. If there are problems, small adjustments can be made. Dentists call this' easing' your dentures.
Dentures can be a good solution for patients who have missing teeth. They are fashioned to give the appearance of a natural set of teeth and are custom made to match the shading and appearance of your natural teeth.
